The STEAM Shed

Join an inclusive community of makers, artists, geeks, crafters and inventors by becoming a member of The STEAM Shed. Encourage and inspire each other, share equipment and space, and make the world a better place by doing lots of making!
As a part of the Shed we will be running Maker Meetup – a pizza fuelled monthly session for makers, crafters, artists and techies to get together to use the Shed and to share ideas. 

Those will be open to members and non members.

Nights are themed according to members interests.

 

 

There are two types of membership with different levels of access:

  • Level One: £40 per month
    Includes 24/7 access and keyholder status
  • Level Two: £30 per month
    Access during open hours only

Access to equipment and facilities is free for members. There’s no pay as you go access.

  • Ultimaker 3d printer, Laser cutter, Kiln, potters wheels. 

  • Raspberry Pi’s and proto boards, Arduino packs.

  • Artist studio equipment, Screen printing equipment.

  • Ricoh Sublimation printer

  • Mug Press, Badge Press, soldering irons, sewing machine.

  • Consumable items including electronics and art materials.

  • Classroom for events and sessions for up to 15 people, Kitchen and snack shop. 

  • Shared working space – including access to printers, computers and kitchen

  • Tool lending library – members arrange short term loan of equipment via the members community page
  • Makerspace induction sessions – trained staff offer one hour long training sessions on equipment. Mandatory for laser cutter, mug press and 3D printer.

  • 24/ 7 access – Level 1 members have open access to the space, Level 2 members have access during opening hours. 

  • Project storage space – Level 1 members can securely store their projects in our storage pods.

  • Access to Facebook group – members use closed Facebook group to arrange access, book sessions and equipment time.  

  • Talent network – members use the talent database to share their skills and expertise within the membership group

  • Discounted commission on shop sales – makers and crafters can sell their products in the Republic Of Wigan shop in the STEAM gallery. Members at a discounted commission of 20% (30% for non members)   

  • Classes and Workshop – the STEAM Shed holds regular sessions and workshops to learn and develop new skills. Classes include pottery, painting, mosaic, illustration, coding, electronics. Members get a 20% discount off classes and workshops.( Discount can be used when booking one child’s place on holiday workshops).   

  • Fabrication and personalisation services – The STEAM Shed can take orders for personalised and printed mugs and badges. Laser cut and 3D printed items can be prototyped and fabricated. CAD testing, set up and minimum quantities apply. 

  • Tool Lending Library – we all have tools and equipment at home that we use very rarely. The Tool Library is a place where members can arrange the free short term loan of equipment including decorating equipment, hand tools, power tools etc. Safety and condition of tools is members responsibility.
